Dr. Mike Jackson
Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach


Coach Jackson has 24 years experience as an Athletic Administrator/Head Football Coach including 6 seasons at La Marque.  During this time he has compiled a record of 177-92-4.  This includes 2 State Championships and 20 playoff appearances. He is 58-17 in his six seasons as the Head Cougar, including a district record of 25-2.  He has led 5 different schools to the playoffs and 4 different schools to the 4th round.  Coach Jackson has been named Coach of the Year 21 times and has served as the Head Coach of the Bayou Bowl (2012), Space City (2010) and the GHFCA Bowl (2014) All-Star games. Coach Jackson has been named Galveston County Coach of the Year three times, in 2011, 2012 & 2015.  He is a Past-President for the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association (2011-2012) and has had 13 assistants move on to take Head Football Positions during his career. He has his B.A. from St. Edward's University in Physical Education/History (1990), an M.A. from Southwest Texas State in Athletic Administration (1991), an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria (1994), and his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from California Coast University (2001). Coach Jackson is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) through the National Interscholastic Administrators Association and has spoken at numerous clinics regarding offensive football and program development, including the Glazier, Greyhound, City of Palms, Gridiron Heroes & Gateway to Mexico Clinics. He has been published several times in coaching periodicals, including 5 times in Texas Coach Magazine.  He is married to Tracey Jackson and has two children Mariah (10) and Jericho (5). 


David Montano
Assistant Head Coach

David Montano is in his sixth season at La Marque High School.  Montano started his coaching career at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1995 as a defensive assistant.  From 1996-2002 he coached several positions for the TAMUK Javelinas.  Montano started his high school coaching career at H.M. King High School in Kingsville where he was the special teams coordinator, defensive backs, and assistant offensive line coach.  He also served as the head boys and girls track coach and produced three state medals in track, the first three in school history.  In 2006 Montano relocated to Premont High School for two seasons where he wore several hats.  He was the high school assistant principal, football special teams and co-defensive coordinator, and head track coach for the boys and girls programs.  During his second season at Premont, he also took on the role of interim athletic director and head football coach.  In 2008, Montano landed at Corpus Christi West Oso High School for three seasons where he was the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.  He also served as the head boys track coach and produced four state track and field medals in the sprints, the first track medals in twenty three seasons.  Montano also had the opportunity to coach Track and Field at the collegiate level.  He was the jumps and assistant sprint coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2005-2006) and served in the same capacity at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi during the 2008-2009 seasons. He has led the Cougars basketball team to the last 2 state tournaments.  A native of Donna Texas, Montano received both his bachelor degree in health and kinesiology and his master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.  He holds certifications in education administration, health, kinesiology, and mathematics.  

Justin Calvin
Defensive Coordinator


Coach Calvin has 10 seasons of experience and 7 years at La Marque. Coach Calvin began his coaching career in 2007 at Timpson High School in Timpson, Texas. Coach Calvin coached the running backs and safeties and was the head track coach. In 2008 Coach Calvin was promoted to defensive coordinator and took over as the head football coach the last two weeks of the season where he lead the team to victories. In 2009 Coach Calvin was promoted to offensive coordinator.  Coach Calvin also was the head track coach for three years, leading the Bears to a district championship, two district runner up finishes, an area championship, an area runner up finish two top five regional and state final finishes. In 2010, Calvin joined the Coogs as running backs coach helping the Coogs to a state championship appearance and a quarter finals appearance in 2011.  Calvin coached two time all state running back Tim Wright.  Calvin also coached girls basketball, softball, and boys track in La Marque.  Coach Calvin has one daughter Maya, who is seven years old.

Dan Morgan
QUALITY CONTROL/TECHNOLOGY



Coach Morgan has 24 years experience in coaching and has a state championship from St. Pius High in 1993.  He is a former Head Coach and Coordinator as well as having served as a Head Baseball and Softball coach at various stops.  He has coached at St. Pius X, Lutheran North, Milby, Chavez and Mount Carmel High School.  His wife, Nicole, is the Theater Arts Director at Memorial High School in Spring Branch ISD.  They have two children, Colleen (21) and Nathan (18).

Coach Bolton is in his 13th year of coaching.  This includes stops in Bridge City, Shepherd, Hemphill and most recently Lumberton, where he helped guide the team to the playoffs.  He has also coached LB's in the Border Wars All-Star game in 2015 and 2016.  He also serves as the Head Tennis Coach at La Marque.  He has one daughter, Addyson, who is 8 years old.

Byron D. Monroe

Coach Monroe is a graduate of Langston University and has a Master's Degree from Oklahoma City University. He is beginning his 4th year at La Marque. Coach Monroe is a veteran of the United States Navy.  He began his coaching career at the United States Naval Academy.  He also has coaching experience in the Oklahoma public school system and in the Houston public school system.  Coach Monroe has been coaching for more than 20 years and is in his 2nd year at La Marque.  He is married to Charmetria and has four children: Lamont, Alexandria, Chadwick and Corliss.

Coach Cervenka is in his 2nd year of teaching and coaching.  He is married to his wife Jennifer since 2009 and is working with the middle school football teams.

Kevin Wilcox
Freshman Head Coach/Corners

Coach Kevin Wilcox is entering his 4th year of teaching and coaching.  He graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and minor in Psychology.  He graduated from La Marque in 1995 and played on the 1993 and 1994 finalist teams.  Coach Wilcox lettered in four sports at La Marque: football, basketball, baseball and track.  He is teaching social studies at La Marque Middle School.

Brent Lartigue
Video Coordinator/Middle School Coaching

Coach Lartigue is in his 11th year coaching at La Marque. This will be his 9th year as Video Coordinator. Coach Lartigue has also been an assistant basketball coach for seven years. Coach Lartigue graduated from La Marque High School and was a member of the undefeated 1995 State Championship Football Team. After high school he earned his B.S. from Texas A&M University and a MBA/MHA from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is certified to teach Special Education. He and his wife HaTriece have three sons Tristan(11), Bryce(8) and Jackson (newborn).
