David Montano is in his fifth season at La Marque High School. Montano started his coaching career at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1995 as a defensive assistant. From 1996-2002 he coached several positions for the TAMUK Javelinas. Montano started his high school coaching career at H.M. King High School in Kingsville where he was the special teams coordinator, defensive backs, and assistant offensive line coach. He also served as the head boys and girls track coach and produced three state medals in track, the first three in school history. In 2006 Montano relocated to Premont High School for two seasons where he wore several hats. He was the high school assistant principal, football special teams and co-defensive coordinator, and head track coach for the boys and girls programs. During his second season at Premont, he also took on the role of interim athletic director and head football coach. In 2008, Montano landed at Corpus Christi West Oso High School for three seasons where he was the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. He also served as the head boys track coach and produced four state track and field medals in the sprints, the first track medals in twenty three seasons. Montano also had the opportunity to coach Track and Field at the collegiate level. He was the jumps and assistant sprint coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2005-2006) and served in the same capacity at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi during the 2008-2009 seasons. This past year as the head basketball coach he led the Cougars to the state tournament. A native of Donna Texas, Montano received both his bachelor degree in health and kinesiology and his master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He holds certifications in education administration, health, kinesiology, and mathematics.
Assistant Head Coach
Greg Bagby is in his first year as Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator
at La Marque. Coach Bagby is a graduate of Celina High School and
East Texas State University. He received his teacher certification from
Texas State University in San Marcos. Bagby had assistant coaching stints
at Bastrop, Tom Bean, La Grange, East Bernard, Kerrville Tivy, Teague and
Ganado. Bagby coached Buddy Hanson (Dave Campbell's Texas
Football 2A cover boy) in Tom Bean. He also coached Johnny
"Football" Manziel at Kerrville Tivy. When Bagby was the
Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Special Teams
Coordinator at Ganado, he helped lead the Indians to State Semi-Final
appearances in 2008 and 2009. After Ganado, Bagby became the Athletic
Director / Head Football Coach at Van Vleck. While in Van Vleck, Bagby
was selected as the Matagorda County "Coach of the Year" in
2010. In 2013 he led the Leopards to their first playoff appearance in 9
years. He has also coached 19 track athletes at the State Track Meet in
Austin. Coach Bagby is married to Anissa Bagby (3rd grade teacher at
Texas City). His daughter Ally is a pediatric nurse at Cooks Children
Hospital in Fort Worth. His son Dean is attending Texas State
University and is going to be a football
coach. Greg Bagby has been around coaching his whole life. His
father (Tom Bagby) had stints as the AD/Head Football Coach at Waskom,
Pittsburg, Marlin and Celina.
Coach Lynch was born and raised in Galveston, Texas and graduated from Ball High School where he was named all-district running back. He attended Baylor University on a football scholarship where he played running back/linebacker. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education/Health. Later Coach Lynch attended Texas Southern University where he earned a Master's Degree in Health Education. He began his coaching career in Port Lavaca, Texas where he coached Varsity Football, basketball and track. He later moved to La Marque, Texas and was hired by the great Coach Massey. Earnest has coached on every level in La Marque including being the middle school athletic coordinator plus he has been a part of all 5 football State Championship coaching staffs. He has coached several track athletes at the state track meet where they have earned medals. Coach Lynch is beginning his 30th year as an educator and coach in La Marque. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association. Coach Lynch is married to his wife Cheryl and they have 3 children; Jocelyn, Rezhina and Cody.
Entering his 9th season of coaching and 6th year at La Marque, Coach Calvin began his coaching career in 2007 at Timpson High School in Timpson, Texas. Coach Calvin coached the running backs and safeties and was the head track coach. In 2008 Coach Calvin was promoted to defensive coordinator and took over as the head football coach the last two weeks of the season where he lead the team to victories. In 2009 Coach Calvin was promoted to offensive coordinator. Coach Calvin also was the head track coach for three years, leading the Bears to a district championship, two district runner up finishes, an area championship, an area runner up finish two top five regional and state final finishes. In 2010, Calvin joined the Coogs as running backs coach helping the Coogs to a state championship appearance and a quarter finals appearance in 2011. Calvin coached two time all state running back Tim Wright. Calvin also coached girls basketball, softball, and boys track in La Marque. Coach Calvin has one daughter Maya, who is seven years old.
Byron D. Monroe
Freshman Coordinator/Quality Control
Coach Monroe is a graduate of Langston University and has a Master's Degree from Oklahoma City University. He is beginning his 3rd year at La Marque. Coach Monroe is a veteran of the United States Navy. He began his coaching career at the United States Naval Academy. He also has coaching experience in the Oklahoma public school system and in the Houston public school system. Coach Monroe has been coaching for more than 20 years and is in his 2nd year at La Marque. He is married to Charmetria and has four children: Lamont, Alexandria, Chadwick and Corliss.
Coach Kevin Wilcox is entering his 3rd year of teaching and coaching. He graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and minor in Psychology. He graduated from La Marque in 1995 and played on the 1993 and 1994 finalist teams. Coach Wilcox lettered in four sports at La Marque: football, basketball, baseball and track. He is teaching social studies at the Renaissance Academy.
Coach Holmes is beginning his 15th year in education at La Marque. He is a 1992 graduate of La Marque HS and a member of the 1992 Bi-District team. Coach Holmes earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Wiley College and his Masters from Grand Canyon University. He currently teaches 4th grade Social Studies & Writing at La Marque Elementary Math & Science Academy. Coach Holmes has four lovely kids- Kancia, Asia, Ashton & Amari Holmes.
Coach Hartnett is in his 3rd year coaching at La Marque ISD. His work with the baseball team helped them advance to the state playoffs in 2014 and this season he takes over as the Head Baseball Coach. He is married to his wife Jeri and he has two children Kendall (4) and Coltyn (3).
Coach Lartigue is in his 9th year coaching at La Marque. This will be his 7th year as Video Coordinator. Coach Lartigue has also been an assistant basketball coach for six years. Coach Lartigue graduated from La Marque High School and was a member of the undefeated 1995 State Championship Football Team. After high school he earned his B.S. from Texas A&M University and a MBA/MHA from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is certified to teach Special Education. He and his wife HaTriece have two sons Tristan(9) and Bryce(6).
Bobby Kinsley is beginning his 30th year of athletic training and 3rd year at La Marque High School. he has a masters degree from Texas A&M-Kingsville in Sports Administration that he earned in 1992. He worked four years at Odessa High School from 1987 to 1991 and three years at West Texas A&M as the Head Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director from 1991-1994. The last 20 years he has worked in the hospital setting directing several sports medicine outreach programs. He is originally from San Angelo, Texas.
